Pickens County Habitat is currently seeking applicant families for houses in
Easley, Pickens, Liberty, Central, and Clemson
Habitat for Humanity is a Christian housing ministry financed through private donations and utilizing volunteer labor. our purpose is to build homes with families and sell the houses at no profit and no interest to famlies who could not
otherwise afford a home. Please read the following items to see if you know someone who might qualify as a prospective homeowner.
To qualify they must have a housing need. For example: no indoor plumbing, poor heating, leaks in the roof, overcrowding (three in each bedroom), unsafe or unsanitary conditions, or paying more than 30% of
their income for suitable housing.
They must have lived or worked in Pickens County for a year.
With their permission, we will verify employment and other income, obtain a statement from current landlord,
and review credit history. An interview and home visit are included in the second phase of the application
process.
If approved for a Habitat home, we require that all adults (17 years and older) in the household be willing to work a minimum of 200 hours of sweat
equity. 35 of those hours must be completed before construction can begin on your home. All children ages 12-16 are asked to invest 50 hours of sweat equity time on their home.
If they are approved for a Habitat home, they will be required to attend homeowner education programs to learn and practice budgeting, home repair, and maintenance. You will
receive sweat equity credit for these courses.
If approved for a Habitat home, $500 will be required for a down payment and closing costs. This must be paid prior to closing on your home.
If they are approved for a home and meet the sweat equity and down payment requirements, we will sell them a home at cost. Habitat house payments, which
include taxes and insurance, are approximately $250 per month. * These house payments will be used by Habitat
to build more houses with other families. This requires that these payments be made on time each month.
We encourage anyone interested in being a Habitat for Humanity homeowner to submit the pre-application or ask for more information.
All information is considered confidential and is to be used only for family selection purposes. The entire application process takes approximately two months.
